Never Too Late To Start Shopping For Bridesmaids

It’s best to order the clothes between three and four months before the big day, but you also need to give yourself time to rummage around.

Buying bridesmaid dresses shouldn’t be an afterthought, our experts warn. You will need a lot of time to choose the perfect dress or dresses for your favorite women, experts say. Why? Because in addition to buying a look or a look that flatters the body, the sense of style, as well as the hair and skin tone of different women, you also need to provide enough time for these clothes to actually be made. So when should you start searching?

According to Sandy Palenschat, owner of Bella Bridesmaids in Cleveland, Ohio, the best time to start buying bridesmaid dresses is once you’ve found your wedding dress — Which means you’re already shopping nine to 12 months before the wedding, she explains. Ideally, you would also have chosen your wedding venue at that time. “The wedding dress and the venue help determine the Tone of the wedding,” she says, adding that the bridesmaids’ dresses should complement and enhance this Vision.

In addition, the average production time of a bridesmaid’s dress — The one that is not bought on the post — is close to 12 to 16 weeks, she says. Palenschat therefore recommends that your companions order their clothes no later than six months before the wedding, to ensure that they arrive with enough margin for production or shipping delays and that they make the necessary changes.

And while you can certainly bend this proposed schedule within reason, your options in designer boutiques are getting slimmer over time — And you could be paying a higher price, Palenschat warns. “Most designers offer Rush options ranging from two to ten weeks of production,” she explains for late weddings. “The faster a dress is produced, the higher the delivery costs.”

If you are only a few months away from your big day and have not yet started buying bridesmaid dresses, do not despair: you still have a few options. “Shopping in-store during sample sales and in the field is much easier for bridesmaid dresses than for wedding dresses,” says Valarie Falvey, owner and wedding planner at Kirkbrides Weddings in Cleveland, Ohio. In addition, some designers even offer storage options that can be sent immediately. But these have their drawbacks: “this Option does not allow the usual production to order, so a bride can choose from limited colors, styles and sizes,” says Palenschat. Nevertheless, you can arrive in a few weeks.

Finally, if you have waited too long, you should allow your bridesmaids to choose their own ready-made dresses. (And they will love you for that, because maybe they will be able to wear the clothes again.) “My favorite style and color for bridesmaids is black,” Falvey says, “and you can always ask your wives to all wear their own black dress” that you own or would like to buy.
